iZombie Postmortem: Episode 2

iZombie Season 1, Episode 2: Brother, Can You Spare a Brain?

The Great! – My favorite scene of this episode was, by far, when Liv flirted with the murder victim’s young mistress. Very hot! Rose McIver really shows off her range as an actress when her character Liv picks up her “meal’s” traits & memories. I wonder what would happen if she ate the brain of an orange tabby..hmmmm….?

The Good – Liv’s first meeting with Blaine DeBeers was very well done. It was interesting to see them discuss their shared condition with each other, and try to figure out the finer points of going “full on zombie”! I’m thinking they’ll bang at some point, but not anytime soon, ala Veronica Mars + Logan style. DeBeers zombie lifestyle versus Liv’s gives the show some much appreciated depth.

It’s interesting to see how DeBeers’ new business venture could spread the zombie “disease” further. From what I saw in this episode, it looks like having sex spreads the zombie-ness. Could Major Lilywhite be next??

The not so good… – So far, I’m more invested in Liv’s personal story, and the zombie stuff, than the procedural crime-solving stuff. I’m happy to hear that the show might be focusing less of each episode on the “case of the week” going forward, but I’ve personally never been a huge fan of procedural/formulaic shows, so take this “negative” with a grain of salt.

It cracks me up how Clive just goes along with Liv’s psychic cover. I guess he’s seeing results, but c’mon! Not even a question, or two about how she does what she does? Maybe, he just likes having her around to break up his doldrum day, and doesn’t want to chance losing her.

Although, I’m doing a “The not so good..” category, I still love the show, and it seems to be getting better each week!(I know…only 2, so far..heh)

I also want to give a shout-out to the iZombie podcast. They do a great job discussing all aspects of the show, and they even dedicated whole podcasts to each collection of the original iZombie comic!

iZombie airs Tuesdays at 9pm on The CW.
