“I don’t understand my relationship with Beanworld beyond its existence. I don’t know where it comes from nor where it goes. It just is.” said Larry Marder via Twitter, March 9th, 2014.
Larry Marder is a visionary cartoonist, creator of the comic Tales of the Beanworld, acting President of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, formerly Executive Director of Image Comics(back in the early days), and served a long stint as President of McFarlane Toys. He’s gone back to working on Beanworld comics in recent years. You can find him tabling Artist’s Alley at Comicon, and other comics conventions. He’s published 3 hardcover collections of Beanworld, so far. I just have a feeling that Beanworld, and Larry Marder would be a much bigger deal if he was a younger cartoonist, and if a company like Fantagraphics, Drawn & Quarterly, or No Brow was publishing his work; i.e. Beanworld is under-appreciated. Go pick it up folks!
